Playing The Disc

Kids nowadays are very tech-savvy.

My young nephew is able to program a new phone without reading any manuals. Old fogey like us  or at least me, need to read instruction manual first before attempting anything. Actually, I like reading instruction manuals, yes I know, weird - that's what my hubby says.

Well, not surprisingly Eugene learns fast too. Eversince my sis-in-law showed Eugene how to swipe the photos on her iphone, he's now quite good at swiping even on my phone, though it's not the iphone.

Usually Eugene and I will visit the library to borrow book or dvds. At the dvds section, there is a station where you can test out the dvds.

After watching me playing the disc, he will do it himself now. What we do now is that he will look for the dvds he like on the lower shelf while I will browse the upper shelf.

When he sees something he likes, he will amble over to the station to play the disc.

Ya, he knows how to put the disc in.

Here's Eugene putting his dvd disc on my cpu which is under the table. The disc will autoplay and he will sit on hubby's chair to watch.

He helps to switch on my computer too, by pressing the  'on' button.

Casa Verde @ Botanical Gardens

24 Oct'2010

Wanted to bring Eugene to the Botanical Gardens for him to run around and so decided to have lunch there as well.

Casa Verde was so packed! Inside looks like a fast-food counter. You order and pay for your food at the counter looking at the menu board above - reminds me of McDonalds. And you have to go 'chop' your own seat but the food will be brought to you when ready.

Quite a number of people with their dogs outside the restaurant (can it be called a restaurant?).

I had the Gourmet Breakfast set. Ok lor, normal western fare, nothing fantastic, comes with bread.

Eugene eating some of my lunch.

Hubby had the Beef Burger. He liked it. He said that it's much better than Botak Jones - Botak Jones' standard seemed to have dropped. The last time hubby had Botak Jones beef burger, they used a different kind of bread and the beef's not so thick and juicy anymore.

This boy is not afraid of the dog at all - though he was patting the dog very cautiously.

Saw most of the crowd had ordered pizzas. Maybe will try the pizza next time.

Well, it was pouring! So we waited till it stopped before we go walk-about with Eugene.

But it started drizzling and getting heavier and we headed back home.

Wanted to walk this path but it started raining again.

Big Melon Posing

Eugene eating a big slice of melon.

No, he didn't eat that whole big slice - shared with hubby.

wah! that's really called DIGGING IN!

This is a posed pic. This boy now knows how to pose for the camera.
I told him to open his mouth wide and pretend to bite into the melon and to hold that pose until I had clicked the camera - and yes, he maintained the pose even after I had clicked the camera and I had to ask him to stop posing, ha ha ha.

Elephant Puzzle

21 Oct'2010

We started Eugene on simple puzzles quite awhile back.

We had this Elephant puzzle for sometime but did not take it out 'cos I thought it would still be too difficult for Eugene to do.

Well, while going through one of his toy boxes, Eugene saw this Elephant puzzle and immediately took to it.

I showed him how to place the puzzle twice and left it at that as honestly, I think it's rather too complicated for Eugene to do it. It is not like the usual puzzle where you just put the parts in the right slots but for this puzzle, you have to really look and see the curves and look at the parts and scrutinise if it will fit and actually put it into place.

So I left him with the puzzle while I went about to do my own stuff. Suddenly, there was a yell from Eugene and I quickly went to him to see what it was all about.

He had actually fixed all the parts together! and he was congratulating himself!

And he keeps taking it apart and putting it back together again.

So I try to test him.

I put the pieces face down to see if he will notice it and he did.

Usually he will put the pieces number 3 and 4 first as the base to start putting the rest into place. So I hid one of the piece (can't remember if I hid 3 or 4) to see if he will be able to put the rest together without having the usual pieces first.

Eugene does not do the puzzle according to the numbers that's printed on each block. He actually looks at the blocks to see how he will fit it. Well, that's because he's still not good at his numbers.

Anyway, he looked at it for awhile and slowly started piecing it together until he needed the piece I hid in order to finish the whole puzzle. Yay! goes to show that he can think of another way if one way is blocked.

His triumphant look.

Well done Eugene.

Chinese Class

I had enrolled Eugene for Chinese classes next year. It's only once a week though.

I grew up during the time when the S'pore Government said, pass your English. And then half-way thru, the Government said, pass your Chinese!

Too late. I was already at the point of no return.Completely flunked Chinese. It was so bad that it did not even warrant an F in the certificate :(

I am conversant in simple Mandarin but can't really read and write, whereas hubby is better at reading but can't really converse.

My side of family, only my mom is proficient in Mandarin.

My hubby's side of family - all are not proficient in Mandarin except maybe my pa-in-law.

I do let Eugene watch some Chinese dvds like Elmo in Chinese, just to get him used to hearing Mandarin and he did pick up some Chinese words like eyes, nose, ears, hands, legs.

Well, the registration was suppose to start at 9am. I was walking to the school when I looked at the time, 0830, wah, so early.

So I diverted to the petrol kiosk next to the school to browse thru some magazine. After about 10 mins, I decided to head to the school so as to give me time to find out where the registration counter is.

Arrived at the school. So empty. Where hah?

Saw some parents going up the stairs. OK, I follow, must be on the 2nd floor.

As I walked towards the door, WAH! so many people already! BUT it's not even 9am!

And thus begins my journey of kiasuism of education.

So those stories I heard of parents queing up way before registration time are true.

Luckily there were still slots available for the class that I wanted Eugene to be in. One of the administrator was shouting that for certain class, it's already full - and this is just after 9am only.

Overhead somebody said that she came at 7am. 7am leh! OMG!

I really hope that I do not have to come to that stage.

Fake Measles

15 Oct' 2010

Doc : your son got Fake Measles

Me : huh????????

This is the first time I have heard of fake measles. Measles is measles lah, got fake and real one meh?

Apparently, for real measles, when you got the rashes, the fever goes even higher.

For fake measles, typically, you get fever for about 3 days and when fever breaks, then the rash will appear.

And this was exactly what happened to Eugene. He had fever on and off for about 3 days - highest going up to 39.5C. Brought him to KK and doc just prescribed fever medication.

When his fever subsided, I noticed rashes on his cheeks and upper body and back we went to KK and now doc said it's fake measles and the rash will get worse covering his whole body.

But the rash seemed to be fading and then suddenly, more rashes appeared - now on his arms and legs but the body is ok now. A 2nd attack of the fake measles!

I did some research on the internet and it seemed that fake measles are quite common among toddlers and some will get a 2nd attack or more.

This is when the spots started appearing on his arm and legs. Over the next day, it got progressively worse. Some area was full of spots so close together that it looked like a big red mosquito bite instead of spots.

But this boy is still as active as ever. In fact, he's eating more now than before and putting on back a bit of his chubby cheeks.

My father was not happy about the situation. First was HFMD and now this. "Why you send him to class? he's so young, no need!"

In fact most of the older folks will say the same thing.

Aiyoh, the poor boy - keep him at home the whole day and everyday? Don't go out cos scared of catching this or that?

I'm sure Eugene will go bonkers and so will I.

I feel that it's good for Eugene to go out and interact with people. I believe this is why Eugene is so sociable and interactive instead of being passive. This is why he's learning and picking up stuff at a very fast rate especially verbally.

Of cos, if there's a outbreak of flu or other illness in his class, I will not bring him to class or if I see somebody coughing or sneezing, I will try to avoid that person but to just keep him at home for fear of catching something out there is not quite right.

Maybe because of all this, his immunity will be stronger and able to fight it the next time instead of being sick-free and suddenly one day, catching a simple cold or something would get him really, really sick.

Sooner or later, he has to get out into the world.

Play Play Cars

We are usually early for Eugene's class and there is this Malay boy who will always come up to Eugene and say hello and show Eugene his toy cars.

So Eugene now brings along a toy car and both of them will zoom their toy cars on the walkway.

One of Eugene's classmate saw them playing and now joins in too with his own toy car.

Table Soccer

01 Oct'2010

Happy Children's Day!

Thought I'll bring Eugene to visit my optometrist at Wisma Atria. My optometrist and his wife have not seen Eugene before and have been asking me to bring Eugene to visit them.

Well, nothing much to do at Wisma Atria and ION, not a kiddie place. Decided to go home but saw Singtel having a promotion and there was a table soccer.

Eugene had a good time playing it, well, more like trying to spin the handle but unable.

Hmmm.... how to use this handle?

Oh...... turn this way, turn that way......

Take that! Kick!

Ha , ha, looks that he's a pro from the photos - but no lah, he's still unable to control the handle.

DIY Hair-Cut

All along, hubby cuts Eugene's hair till we brought Eugene one day for his hair-cut by a professional (see here) which I just do not like the way the hair turned out.

Hubby sometimes dilly dally  to give Eugene a hair-cut so I've decided that I'll do it instead.

Just simple trimming only ......

Good boy, didn't fidget too much.

My Mom's Birthday

 02 Oct'2010

Celebrated my mom's birthday a day later at my brother's home.

My mom cooked the chilli crabs - so shiok man! One day I'll post her recipe.

Curry chicken and bee-hoon. Sorry, no pics, was too busy devouring the crabs, ha ha.

My bro's not in the pic as he was working late.

I want to cut the cake too!
