Children's Festival 2012

Hey, I'm back!

I've been battling the flu and then the persistent cough, that cough which dragged on for over a month! Coughed so bad that my upper chest was so painful and still is. Realised that a lot of people got it too.

Anyway, let's get on shall we?

16 June 2012

Given some plasticine and have to make patterns using paper clips and clothes pegs.

But Eugene started rolling the plasticines into little balls! ha ha ha......

Interesting patterns and little figurines and dinosaurs on the wall.

Let's Dance : Go to a private booth and boogie! and then watch your moves projected onto the screen.

DRESS ME UP

THE ART OF IMAGINATION

Draw on the cardboard box.

And that's a cat that he drew - a sad cat, he said.

We bought one of this empty cardboard box for Eugene to draw at home.

5QUID 7 GROW THE GARDEN IN THE DARK

Speak into the microphone to get the squid all lighted up!

SINGAPORE ART MUSEUM

Hopped over to the Singapore Art Museum to have a look since the tickets to the SAM @ 8Q were  also valid for the Art Museum.

********************************

I wish that they'll hold the Childrens' Festival at the Singapore Art Museum instead of the SAM@8Q.

SAM@8Q, to me seemed so bare and like a warehouse. There ain't no ambience at all.

So please bring it to the Singapore Art Museum for next year !

Overlapped Parallel Dimension?

Ok, I've told you before of my experiences with "Parallel Dimensions".

And now, I've recently got another experience which was a first for me.

My father accidentally dropped his denture and wanted me to find a dentist to glue it back for him. Since it was evening, I told him that I'll go and inquire with the 2 dental clinics near my place the next morning.. And the whole night, I was thinking where are the other dental clinics (besides the 2 that I know of) which I can inquire.

Early the next morning, my dad called me on my mobile even though I was at home. He thought that I should be out of the house as it's usually the time that I bring Eugene to school but Eugene's holiday programme starts later.

Anyway, my dad told me that he would prefer to go back to the National Dental Centre as they have his records there and he likes the doctor.

I asked my dad to check his NDC appointment card and to give me the telephone number stated there.

After hanging up the mobile. I immediately went to get my house's cordless phone but before I could dial the numbers, the phone rang.

Hmm.... who could it be? so early!

Hello?

Good morning, I'm calling from the National Dental Centre and I'm returning your call.

????????? I was dumbfounded. I wanted to ask her questions but I thought since she's on the line, I get my dad's appointment fixed first.

After the appointment's being fixed. I asked the lady.

Er... you called me, you're returning my call?

Yes, we got your missed call.

Oh, ok thanks - I didn't want to ask more or she'll think I'm crazy.

I never did call the NDC, so how could she have a missed call from me?

I thought that maybe my dad called NDC and left a message for them to call me? but why should he do that when he wanted me to call NDC instead.
My dad's is hard of hearing due to the chemos so I do all his apppointments as he would not be able to hear very clear what the other party is saying in normal tone. I practically have to shout in order for my dad to hear me over the phone.

Anyway, I asked him if he did call NDC but he said no.

Now the NDC lady said it's missed call, not left a message - so the missed call number is my house number and that's how she called me at home.

Did my thinking hard about it, my subconscious mind made it happened?

or was it my parallel self in the parallel dimension who had already made the call and somehow at that moment, both of our dimension happened to overlap resulting in me receiving the phone call from NDC in my dimension when it should have been received in the parallel dimension?

Fine dining Italian food?

The food's more refined here. You know that the sauces are home-made, the sea-food's fresh, the dishes have that extra oomph in it.

Portobello mushrooms. I just love mushrooms. Hmm.... though I think they kind of undercook the mushrooms.

I had the ravioli filled crab - I love it though I had read some not-so-good reviews on this.

Hubby had the ink-squid pasta. He really liked it.

Yummy crepe filled with mascarpone cheese!

All in all, nice good food in a small little restaurant.

Only gripe is that the price's rather pricey. Our bill for the above comes to slightly below a $100 without any drinks (just plain water).

A house pour of a glass of wine will cost you about $16/-

Happy Mother's Day

11 May 2012

The teacher cut the flowers and the kid have to press the flower stalks onto the sponge inside the cup.

Very well arranged - I thought it was the teacher who arranged it.

There was a card too with the kid colouring it and writing his name onto it.

Apparently, the children have to say "Happy Mother's Day" when they're been fetched.

When I came to pick up Eugene, he came up to me, gave me a hug, said "Happy Mother's Day" and "I Love You" - I got a lump on my throat and my eyes were getting misty. He said "I Love You" on his own accord.

I always hug and kiss and say "I love you" to Eugene anytime that I want to. No need for any special days or date. And Eugene will do the same too.

I grew up in a typical Chinese family where my parents do not hug or say the word love - it's like taboo - it's not that they don't love you, they show it in their own ways - you know what I mean right? those of you who grew up in a atypical chinese household.

So I do not want this trait in my family and will always tell Eugene how much he's loved and hug hug hug :)

Flowers for you! Happy Mother's Day!

PizItalia - Italian Chilli Crab

September 2013
Update : this place is now closed.

05 May 2012

yep, you heard correctly.

We went to this place to view the dinosaur as the kid is just crazy about anything to do with dinosaur.

Hmm..... why would anyone want to eat chilli crab in an Italian joint? This restaurant is at the East Coas Seafood Lagoon surrounded by the great seafood joints like Red House and Jumbo.

But then, they do have the usual Italian food and surprisingly, they are quite packed.

..... packed with those with young kids like us.

I guess the free indoor playground helps.....

We had the pesto spaghetti and yes, the pesto was freshly made - very, very nice. We didn't try the pizzas but reviews are good.

Making sand-castles at the beach earlier......

which extended to home the next day ....

doing his impression of a T-Rex dinosaur, lol...

When You're Ready, You're Ready.

13 May 2012

I have a lot of well-meaning advice, comments, the methods of potty training. But most entails bringing the kid to pee every half/one hour. Aiyoh, bringing the kid to the toilet that frequent and nagging him to pee - I really don't have this kind of patience.

Anyway, he's able to pee-pee on his own now and until recently, he will only poo-poo in his diaper. So during one weekend, I refuse to put his diaper on the whole day - guess what - he held back his poo! Urrghhh.....

Ok then, let's just concentrate on his peeing first. So one night, he went diaperless to bed and he was dry in the morning! Yay! So far for the past 2 months, there was only one episode of wetting the bed.
Mommy, Mommy! (in the middle of the night)
I sprinted out of bed (he does not get up at night, this was the first time)
Eugene, what's wrong? (my heart palpitating)
Mommy, I don't have diaper on? (he forgot that he was wearing big-boy pants) LOL

I told his teacher about Eugene refusing to poo in the potty. Teacher Liz said not to stress the boy, he's ready when he's ready. Ok, relax lah, I don't want to stress myself out too.

So everytime he wants to poo and asks me to put on a diaper for him, I will do it. He's already going diaperless at night so that's a milestone for him. Most kids will go diaperless for pee and poo first before being diaperless at night because it seems that going diaperless at night is the hardest for most kids.

Then today, Eugene came to me and said in a serious tone :
Mommy, can you switch on the light in the toilet, I need to poo.

(er? did I hear correctly?) I switched on the lights and put the small potty cover on the toilet bowl and a stool for him to climb up and sit.

Do you want me to wait for you?

No mommy.

I checked on him later and asked if he pooed and he said yes. Really? Show me your poo and yes indeed, he did it.

So thanks to Teacher Liz for telling me that when he's ready, he's ready and not to force him.

Iphoneography : Dragonfruits & Pineapples

I stay in a country where there are an abundance of different kinds of fruits from all over the world.

But, unfortunately, I do not like to eat fruits. Yes, I can hear your gasps!

What can I say - I'm just not into fruits. Ok maybe the honeydew and rockmelon, I'm ok with.

 Gorgeous colours, isn't it?

Iphoneography : Walking with Dinosaurs

Eugene just loves Dinosaurs.

He will always borrow Dinosaurs books from the library and yes, he knows most of the dinosaurs' names.

So I just couldn't help but to do a pic of him with dinosaurs :)

Medz @ Millenia Walk

22 April 2012

 A Mediterranean "Marche" style.

You choose what you want and the amount will be logged onto a card.

You'll be given a kind of a buzzer that looks like a lighted-up spaceship when your food is ready - this is a very good idea as you can go back to your table and chit-chat instead of hanging around the stall waiting for your food.

When you leave, the cashier will check your card for the amount that you had ordered.

I had the seafood tahine with couscous - I feel that it's quite a small portion - guys, if you order this, do order other stuff too.

Paella - ok, quite flavourful

Roast Chicken - rather dry

Mutton Kebab - good!

Dessert - Baklava - good!

Apparently, the first outlet is at Orchard Central and this is newly opened.

I'll be back to try other stuff.

Iphoneography : Dark, Stormy Night

Being so rainy these days. Thunderstorms, strong winds.......

This is the foot reflexology stones near the playground. It's actually a day scene and the rain was from this pic ...

Stones pic was changed to nite scene and blended with the rain drops with some tweaking on the placements of lights.

S's 4th Birthday

14 April 2012

S was Eugene's first crush. S and Eugene were in the same playgroup class (see here and here) before S went to another nursery school.

So it was a surprise that S wanted Eugene to attend her birthday party. I thought she had most probably forgotten about Eugene already. So sweet of S to remember Eugene.

Eugene now and then do ask about S.

"Where's S now?" - Eugene would ask.

When we arrived at S's place, Eugene went immediately to play the toys that he saw (ya, he not shy one).

That's R, S's younger brother.

Maybe it's a guy thing. R ended up playing with Eugene instead of S.
R is so absolutely adorable! He's like the host - he went from person to person to "talk".

Cutie R (feel like pinching those cheeks!)

Pretty S.
(I'm very please with this shot - looked like shot in studio ya? :)   )

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You are 4 years old!

Iphoneography - Van Gough inspired

Yes, I caved in and got an Iphone and I've joined the many thousands around the world who have discovered the world of Iphoneography.

Those who knows me will not be so surprised as I'm always the computer geek among my friends.

So this is my first pic using apps to come up with different look and feel to the photo.

I'm still a newbie, so don't be too harsh on me ya.

View from my parents' flat.

I've used more than one app to process this photo.

Scrub !

Training the kid. He'll have to take over the scrubbing of the kitchen floor when he gets older and we gets even older.

Actually he was having a fun time playing with the suds and the water hose.
