Crab Party Restaurant

31 July 2010

Hmm.... we were thinking of having crab bee-hoon soup after having eaten it before at Mellben Toa Payoh.

We decided to try it at this place called 'Crab Party'.

Hubby with Eugene clowning around.

We ordered Thai Papaya Salad and Garlic Pork Ribs.

And here's our Crab Bee-Hoon.

Verdict on the Crab Bee-Hoon (based on my personal opinion) :

The crab was very very fresh. Hubby found the soup very delicious. Yes, the soup was very delicious but for me, compared to Mellben, I prefer Mellben as I find the soup at Mellben much more robust and infused much more stronger with the crab flavour.

I had just read on the internet of a lot of negative review for this place especially the parking and the bad service.
Yes, the parking is a nightmare there, you have to park along the lanes and we were lucky to have found a slot.
As for the service, were we lucky? we didn't have anything to complain about the service.

Creamy Mushroom Soup without the Cream

Here's a creamy mushroom soup recipe that I had made (quite sometime ago) without using any cream. And it tasted as good as the ones using cream which sometimes do get a bit cloying.

What's the secret to it ? Use pearl barley !

Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped onions (2 medium ones)
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup uncooked pearl barley (do not use the Chinese barley. I use the Ayam Brand White Pearl Barley)
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 pounds white mushrooms, wiped clean, stems trimmed
- 8 cups vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup sherry (I omitted this)
- 1/2 cup chopped parsley
- salt and pepper to taste

1) Saute onions and garlic in a large heavy pot in water or sherry.

2) Add barley and nutmeg and cook for 1 minute, stirring.

3) Add chopped mushrooms, broth and sherry.

4) Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 40 minutes.

5) Add parsely and cool soup slightly.

6) Puree soup in a food processor or blender until smooth or to your preferred consistency (I use a hand-held blender and blend it directly in the pot).

7) Return to the pot (if you're not blending it directly in the pot with a hand-held blender) and season with salt and pepper.

8) Reheat and serve garnished with more sliced mushrooms (optional).

Ok, as I've said, I made this quite sometime ago and I really can't remember how many it serves. But I do remember that it was just as delicious as the ones made with cream.

When I do make this again, I'll repost it with pics.

Professional Hair-Cut

24 July 2010

Hubby and I have been cutting Eugene's hair all this while.  Hubby will trim the sides and back while I will trim the fringe.

Ya, there were a couple of minor hair incidents like over trimming the fringe or sides and leaving a hole or two, muahaha....

Hubby was entitled to a free haircut after having had 5 haircuts done and we decided to bring Eugene for the free haircut to tidy up the 'loose ends'.

We've told Eugene that he's going to get his hair cut and what to expect.

He was such a good boy. No fidgeting, no whining, no nothing, he sat thru it all.

Hmm........  I wonder how it's gonna look.....

The lady had asked if we wanted 'slope' or 'layered'. Hubby said 'slope'.

Aaargh....... he doesn't look good with 'slope' haircut. Look at that cut round the ears, so straight....

Aiyoh, I cannot take it - he looked so, so, how to put it, he looked like a clone! he looked like any other boys out there who have this kind of haircut.

He looked so 'beng' ***faint***

Next time, it's definitely 'layer'.

This is the best shot of him which is not so 'beng'.

One, Two, Buckle My Shoe

Eugene is finally able to put on his own shoes all by himself. Yay!

Eugene have been able to take his shoes off but not able to put on his shoes.

But when he turned 2, it's like somehow his brain's neuron clicked or something, he is able to wriggle his feet in and pull the strap down.

He even put his shoes back on the shelf (but I attribute this to the playgroup that he is attending as the teacher will make the kids do it).

He can't tell which is for the left or right side. He is still not able to pull the strap through one of the top loop.

But to be able to wriggle his feet in and velcro the strap is really something. So proud of him.

Singapore Garden Festival 2010

22 July 2010

Hubby and I have been attending the Garden Festival ever since it started.

Once again, it was been held at Suntec and there were 2 levels to explore.

Eugene picking up pebbles to feel...

Don't this look lovely? Looked like you were in a real kampong.

Are you doing the Maori War Dance ?

Eugene exploring and smelling the spices.

A Modern Tree-House?

Wish I have a house surrounded by trees.

Going with the flower and nature theme, I wore a dress with painted flowers and Eugene wore a t-shirt with a green frog on it.

There were an area for kids to draw.

On another floor, there were booths selling gardening products, plants etc.....

There was a Bonsai exhibition too.

You Are 2 ! Happy Birthday !!!

 11 July 2010

We did not want to have a big celebration for Eugene's 2nd birthday  - just us.

But sis-in-law wanted to celebrate for Eugene too and so we had a celebration with my in-laws and sis-in-law.

Sis-in-law came with 2 balloons, one of which has got Bob The Builder - Eugene's favourite character.

So happy with his Bob The Builder balloon. He just couldn't stop grinning.

My BOB BOB....

Smile Eugene! but he went all serious looking, ha ha.....

I got a black-forest cake from BreadTalk and stuck Bob-The-Builder Picks which I had bought from Ebay.

Waiting patiently for us to finish singing the birthday song so that he can blow the candles.

hoos, hoos

Thought I had to help him blow out the candle - but he blew it out! Well done.

Eugene making a non-too-please face - he wanted to get down and play with the balloons.

Frown look on Eugene. He didn't like the cream in the black forest cake. I actually did not want to buy a black forest cake but hubby insisted - why? - just because he likes it.

Think I'll eat Jie Jie's (does not know how to say koo-jie) steamed corn cake.

I like my balloons!

"I read" - says Eugene.
Of cos, he can't read but he likes to look at it as if he is reading it. Feels grown-up.

Diaper Party Hats! Eugene insisted on hubby wearing it too ! So imaginative !

I am 2 Years Old !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EUGENE!
WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH !

*************************************************

A special treat for Eugene in the evening.

Eugene have to step on the accelerator to get the bike moving forward but he did not seem to know how to press it down..

Strange thing is that if the bike is on reverse mode, he is able to press down on the accelerator. So he was riding on the bike in reverse !

One of our neighbours bought for Eugene a backpack and cap. He was so excited and insisted on wearing it for his afternoon nap.
