Barilla Spaghetti - Price Difference

What a difference in Price!

Ma-in-law called me and told me that the Barilla Spaghetti that I use is cheaper now at $2.90 at NTUC. The price for this brand have been going up from like $1.30 to $2.75 to $3.30 when wheat got more expensive.

So the next day, I quickly went to NTUC.

Along the way, I passed by Shop-n-Save to check it out too - wow, the price is $4.45! - that's really expensive! Did my MIL see salah or not?

My MIL was right, it is $2.90 at NTUC - it's on promotion till end of April.

Why the vast difference? It's $1.55 difference!

Hubby think it's becos NTUC bought it at the old contracted rate from the seller and once the stock from the old contracted rate's finished and a new contract signed - it will be more expensive as wheat is more expensive now and I think, most probably will be selling the price quoted at Shop-n-Save (not very "Save" leh).

And yes, we bought at least 10 packets to stock up..... ya, I know, kiasu......

Dog Show

26 April 2008

Came across a Dog-Competition at the mall near the Indoor Stadium.

So cute......

Saw this 'funny' dog in polka-dots - hmm..... I prefer those big dogs.

This guy is waiting for his cue to put his dog thru the paces - like obeying his order to stop, walk, run, jump etc...

Wah, I like the husky.... that's the dog's breed - I said husky, not hunky.

Wholesalers Frozen Meat and Others

12 April 2008

My in-laws found out about these 2 places and so we decided to check it out.

Seems these 2 places sell whole-sale prices of frozen meat like beef, pork, lamb and chicken. And indeed it is cheaper than the supermarket.

This one called Q.B. is bigger and sells more stuff.
You can find premium cuts of beef like the 'wahyu' (did I spell it correct?) beef, very nice rolls of pork tenderloin, pasta, cheeses, desserts, different kinds of hotdogs, fish like salmon, prawns, scallops, premium grade of the dory fish and others........

Q.B. Food Trading Pte Ltd
8 Chin Bee Crescent, Jurong
tel : 6261-6120

This is the much smaller one which is just next to Q.B. Sells mainly meat stuff. Got a pack of pork bones (for soups) for only about $1.00!

BH Fresh Food Pte Ltd
6 Chin Bee Crescent
tel : 6268-3056

If you don't mind buying frozen stuff, then you should go to these 2 places cos the prices there are definitely much cheaper.

Car Inspection at Sin Ming

03 April 2008

Hubby : you want to follow me for the car inspection?
Me : (hmm.... is this a dream?)

Hubby : you want to go?

Me : huh? wah, so early (isn't this your job to do it leh?)

Hubby : you better come with me so that you'll know what to do if you have to do it one day.

Me : ok, ok, let's go.

This is to check if the brakes are working :

Testing exhaust emission :

Printing out the test results : FAILED! The front wheel alignment failed the test - have to get it re-aligned and re-test and of cos, pay again (cheaper price for re-test).

ZOUK Flea Market

30 March 2008

Thought I'll check it out.

Waiting to get in - opens at 2pm.

This is on the lower level. It's not so crowded at this moment cos it's just opened.

Rosalind from 'Gals Out Loud' had a stand there selling her own used clothes, belts and bags. And Andrea Forseka, the 'Deal or No Deal' gal was there too. They were very friendly and readily obliged with a photo.

Ha ha, Hubby bought a pair of nice canvas sneakers from Chen Han Wei!(for those not in the know, Chen Han Wei is an actor on the Chinese Channel). It was $30, but Chen Han Wei gave him a discount and sold it to him for $20.00.
Hubby also bought 2 caps from another vendor for just $1.00 each! - it's new and good quality too.

I managed to get this 'BLUMARINE' made in Italy, pure silk top for just $18.00! Would have loved to go thru all the stands again, but it was so jam pack - it was really, really crowded.

I will definitely be going for the next Zouk Flea Market again which I heard will be in 3 months' time.

The vendors are all mostly youngsters - but very trendy youngsters and the stuff they have are more fashionable and trendy than most of the flea markets where the clothings are a bit 'auntie'.

And also, there are quite a few high-end brands too - I saw a Cacharel top and also a beautiful pink suede DKNY bag at 50% off - if you really look, you can find some good buys.

It's really so crowded, I could hardly move! - but I'll be back!

Spa Treats at Laguna Golf n Country Club

22 March 2008

Got a spa treat from my fren J. Went with her and her mom to the Lagunita Spa at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

It was 4 hours of bliss. The decor's very balinese and you don't feel like you're in Singapore. I had the marine soak, volcanic rub, full body massage and hair spa while J and her mom had the same soak, rub, massage but a facial instead.

J had a male masseuse as her mom decided to join in for the spa last minute and the spa's ladies' were all fully booked - unfortunately he does not look like Edisen Chen :( (and for those thinking...., my masseuse is female, ok).

I had a suite all by myself, this is where I had the outdoor soak in the bathtub....wah, so siok...... before I went indoor for my other treatments.

This is the couple suite which J and her mom occupied. They soaked in that huge tub.

J and her mom stepped outside their suite to another adjoining balinese hut for their facials.

We will be going again next month to try out their other spa packages.

Glominerals workshop at The Tanglin Club

28 February 2008

Attended a talk on this product called Glominerals - a mineral based make-up.

Make-up is made using natural products which are better on our skin - it does not have talc in it which clogs up our pores.

This product is from the USA and of cos, it is cheaper to buy in US - at least half the price. Hmm.....must ask my pilot fren if he's flying to the US anytime soon so that he can buy it for me.

Great tea-time buffet included.

Demonstration on the make-up techniques.

Ametrine bail setting

26 February 2006

I had gone to a Jewellery Fair at Suntec a while back and bought an Ametrine stone. An Ametrine is a cross between an Amethyst and a Citrine.

I really like the colour of the Ametrine which I bought which is predominantly brown with a slight purplish tinge.

I had wanted to mount it and make it into a ring myself but it's too difficult and I don't have the necessary tools - so I thought the next best thing is to make a pendant out of it.

This is not the correct way of doing a pendant setting but I do not have a soldering torch to do the necessary so this is the easy way out, which is done entirely by sawing and filing.

Drew out the circumference and transferred it onto the copper to be sawn.

Starting my sawing...

Wah lah! My finished pendant....
