Lantern Gathering

30 September 2012

Went to in-laws' place to join the neighbour's lantern walk around the area.

Eugene with my sis-in-law.
Sis-in-law's carrying the lantern that Eugene made in class. It's actually an inverted plastic container with a tea-light stuck on the bottom - quite an ingenious idea from the teacher.

Hubby dropped us off below our flat before he went to park the car and lo and behold, there was a lantern gathering at the playground. Naturally Eugene asked to go. And hubby and I were just mentioning why our estate was so quiet this time round.

Eugene helped to light up some of the candles on the ground when the wind blew out the flame in some of the candles.

Somebody was having a birthday celebration and we got to eat a slice of the ice-cream cake. Thanks!

There, the elusive moon - hiding behind some building.

Jai Thai @ Clover Way

Good Food, Good Value, Good Portion ....

I guess my above statement said it all.

Real authentic Thai food at really, really economical price.

You may have the set meal or individual dishes.

Came the 2nd time with my in-laws - we ordered all small portion as we wanted to try more dishes and the small portions were like a medium.

The man and a lady taking orders and doing the serving are Thai and thus there could be a bit of a communication problem so do speak slowly.

But go early, the place fills up very fast!

Definitely we'll be back !

There are a few outlets of Jai Thai, so check out their website.

We went to the one at Clover Way, don't know if the food's just as good at the other outlets.

Building A Road @ Changi Beach

08 September 2012

Eugene saw a video of "Bob The Builder On Site : Homes & Bridges" and in the dvd, there were some kids building a road out of sand(mixing with water), using planks to make the 'road' straight etc..and he wanted to try it too.

Hubby got a pair of planks for him and with a bucket and a shovel, we went to Changi Beach.

Here's a fast track of the kid 'building a road' :

You know you're old ........

physically and mentally when .............................

(1) - kids used to call you "jie-jie" but now the kids call you or their parents ask their kids to call you "auntie".

(2) - you were eyeing this shoes/clothes and then realised that an old auntie (by old as in about late fifties to sixties) was also eyeing the same thing. Is it I'm thinking old or is old auntie thinking young ?

(3) - you know, how gals like lacy cutesy stuff and you tried on a skirt/top with it - you looked at yourself in the mirror and realised that the face does not match the clothing.

(4) - when you just cannot stand those loud music that drone on and on ..... (not my era I guess) and keep going back to music of yester-years.

(5) - when you could not really differentiate the facial features of one gal/guy from the next in those Korean boy/gal bands - they all looked the same.

(6) - before when somebody rattle their telephone numbers to you, you could write it down immediately without pausing. Now, you have to ask them to repeat as you could only catch 3-4  numbers at any one time.

(7) - and now for the creme de la creme and this really happened just recently :

I was in a shop and went to try on a dress.

I came out of the fitting room to view from a bigger mirror outside the fitting room.

I commented that the waist line was too high for me and I look kind of fat in it.

The salesgirl commented that if one have already given birth, it's natural to have a big stomach.

Limpei......

as you all know, my kid is adopted.

I vow to get back to my Pilates routine..... and eat smaller portions of food (try only lah, don't know can do it or not).

Bhutan Exhibition @ Changi Airport

05 September 2012

Brought Eugene to the airport to view the 'Kinetic Rain' and to play the slides and playground.

Came across this exhibition on Bhutan. Very nice photos.

An old uncle manning a booth there told me to take my kid to take a photo at the photo booth where we can dress up in the Bhutanese costumes. I initially didn't want to, but Eugene wanted to dress up after seeing a family did it.(have to spend at least $30 in any shops in airport to qualify for photo shoot)

Don't Eugene looked like a little Bhutanese boy ?  I think he looked quite dashing in it.

Would love to visit Bhutan one day.

Groupie Gathering

25 August 2012

Our usual groupie gathering.

Dinner was at the Tangs Island Cafe at Tangs. AA suggested this place and I agreed.

Group asked why here - well, because it will not be crowded.

I certainly do not like to jostle with the crowds and to queue for a long time for my food.

Local food at this cafe. The 2 dishes that stands out are the Crayfish Laksa and the Tahu Telor. The rest are only so-so and on the one occasion that I had gone there with hubby, the Penang Char-Kway-Teow was terrible.

But I must say, the Tahu Telor was the best that I had ever tasted.

We next wanted to go to a coffee / dessert joint to chit-chat. Guess what, most of the cafes close at 10pm.

We managed to find one that closes at 1am and that's "High Society" at Pacific Plaza. I must add that we're not those snobbish atas people - just that this place was convenient for us.

Wah, looks so 'high society' ya...

AA looking so 'modelish'

There have very beautiful looking cupcakes and great tasting too.

Pic taken at Tangs Island Cafe

FJ - wish you were here. Let us know when you come back to S'pore for a visit.

ESMERALDA Ship @ VivoCity

12 August 2012

Off we went to see the Esmeralda ship docked at Vivocity.

We had some time to kill before the ship's opened to the public.
Guess what were we queuing for ?

Queuing for a ride in a kiddy train!
It was such a hot and humid day - see my hair plastered over my forehead ?

Choo !   Choo!

Eugene and the other boy in the same cabin were singing the Thomas song very loudly - well, it was loud because the boy's grandma and I were singing too ! lol!

ALL ABOARD !

Wah, I looked like I've got a big fat stomach protruding. It's the blouse which is elasticised at the bottom - well, ok, there is a slight chubby stomach :(

Esmeralda is a steel-hulled four-masted barquentine tall ship of the Chilean Navy, currently the second tallest and longest sailing ship in the world (wikipedia).

Art Class

04 August 2012

Seeing that Eugene have an interest in drawing, I had enrolled him in an art class at the Community Club near our place.

Wah, there're a lot of kids enrolled. Two teachers supervise the kids.

But for me it's ok lah. It's more for Eugene to do something he enjoys and also to socialise with the other children.

Waiting for the rest of the kids.....

The younger ones get to sit right in front.

His first drawing. Of cos the teacher helped a bit.
That's a monkey, by the way (I thought it was a frog, ha ha)

Road Drawing

01 August 2012

The kid said he wanted to draw and wanted some papers.

And he came up with this........

I was stunned. The drawing that I had seen him drew was the "sad cat" at the Children Festival.

I didn't expect him to staple the 2 pieces of paper together and draw this scene.

I think his perspective relating to the road was pretty good.

Hubby : so where's daddy ?

Eugene : you are in the car behind us. I'm grown up already and so I can drive mommy.

ha ha, that was a cute conversation.
