Rubato

27May 2012

Fine dining Italian food?

The food's more refined here. You know that the sauces are home-made, the sea-food's fresh, the dishes have that extra oomph in it.

Portobello mushrooms. I just love mushrooms. Hmm.... though I think they kind of undercook the mushrooms.

I had the ravioli filled crab - I love it though I had read some not-so-good reviews on this.

Hubby had the ink-squid pasta. He really liked it.

Yummy crepe filled with mascarpone cheese!

All in all, nice good food in a small little restaurant.

Only gripe is that the price's rather pricey. Our bill for the above comes to slightly below a $100 without any drinks (just plain water).

A house pour of a glass of wine will cost you about $16/-

Happy Mother's Day

11 May 2012

The teacher cut the flowers and the kid have to press the flower stalks onto the sponge inside the cup.

Very well arranged - I thought it was the teacher who arranged it.

There was a card too with the kid colouring it and writing his name onto it.

Apparently, the children have to say "Happy Mother's Day" when they're been fetched.

When I came to pick up Eugene, he came up to me, gave me a hug, said "Happy Mother's Day" and "I Love You" - I got a lump on my throat and my eyes were getting misty. He said "I Love You" on his own accord.

I always hug and kiss and say "I love you" to Eugene anytime that I want to. No need for any special days or date. And Eugene will do the same too.

I grew up in a typical Chinese family where my parents do not hug or say the word love - it's like taboo - it's not that they don't love you, they show it in their own ways - you know what I mean right? those of you who grew up in a atypical chinese household.

So I do not want this trait in my family and will always tell Eugene how much he's loved and hug hug hug :)

Flowers for you! Happy Mother's Day!

PizItalia - Italian Chilli Crab

September 2013
Update : this place is now closed.

05 May 2012

yep, you heard correctly.

We went to this place to view the dinosaur as the kid is just crazy about anything to do with dinosaur.

Hmm..... why would anyone want to eat chilli crab in an Italian joint? This restaurant is at the East Coas Seafood Lagoon surrounded by the great seafood joints like Red House and Jumbo.

But then, they do have the usual Italian food and surprisingly, they are quite packed.

..... packed with those with young kids like us.

I guess the free indoor playground helps.....

We had the pesto spaghetti and yes, the pesto was freshly made - very, very nice. We didn't try the pizzas but reviews are good.

Making sand-castles at the beach earlier......

which extended to home the next day ....

doing his impression of a T-Rex dinosaur, lol...

When You're Ready, You're Ready.

13 May 2012

I have a lot of well-meaning advice, comments, the methods of potty training. But most entails bringing the kid to pee every half/one hour. Aiyoh, bringing the kid to the toilet that frequent and nagging him to pee - I really don't have this kind of patience.

Anyway, he's able to pee-pee on his own now and until recently, he will only poo-poo in his diaper. So during one weekend, I refuse to put his diaper on the whole day - guess what - he held back his poo! Urrghhh.....

Ok then, let's just concentrate on his peeing first. So one night, he went diaperless to bed and he was dry in the morning! Yay! So far for the past 2 months, there was only one episode of wetting the bed.
Mommy, Mommy! (in the middle of the night)
I sprinted out of bed (he does not get up at night, this was the first time)
Eugene, what's wrong? (my heart palpitating)
Mommy, I don't have diaper on? (he forgot that he was wearing big-boy pants) LOL

I told his teacher about Eugene refusing to poo in the potty. Teacher Liz said not to stress the boy, he's ready when he's ready. Ok, relax lah, I don't want to stress myself out too.

So everytime he wants to poo and asks me to put on a diaper for him, I will do it. He's already going diaperless at night so that's a milestone for him. Most kids will go diaperless for pee and poo first before being diaperless at night because it seems that going diaperless at night is the hardest for most kids.

Then today, Eugene came to me and said in a serious tone :
Mommy, can you switch on the light in the toilet, I need to poo.

(er? did I hear correctly?) I switched on the lights and put the small potty cover on the toilet bowl and a stool for him to climb up and sit.

Do you want me to wait for you?

No mommy.

I checked on him later and asked if he pooed and he said yes. Really? Show me your poo and yes indeed, he did it.

So thanks to Teacher Liz for telling me that when he's ready, he's ready and not to force him.

Iphoneography : Dragonfruits & Pineapples

I stay in a country where there are an abundance of different kinds of fruits from all over the world.

But, unfortunately, I do not like to eat fruits. Yes, I can hear your gasps!

What can I say - I'm just not into fruits. Ok maybe the honeydew and rockmelon, I'm ok with.

 Gorgeous colours, isn't it?

Iphoneography : Walking with Dinosaurs

Eugene just loves Dinosaurs.

He will always borrow Dinosaurs books from the library and yes, he knows most of the dinosaurs' names.

So I just couldn't help but to do a pic of him with dinosaurs :)
