A Glimpse of Heaven

I came across a blog and have since always enjoyed her very insightful postings.

Here I reproduce one of her posting :

" I would urge all my readers to try to be at peace with themselves.
Do not let unkind remarks affect your joy or confidence, for always remember that people's condemnation and unfair judgement of you do not send you to hell; neither do their praises skyrocket you to heaven!!
Hence, before we detect the speck in others' eyes, let us remove the grime and dirt from our own eyes.

A GLIMPSE OF HEAVEN

I was shocked, confused, bewildered

As I entered Heaven's door,

Not by the beauty of it all,

Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven

Who made me sputter and gasp ---

The thieves, the liars, the sinners,

The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from 7th grade

Who swiped my lunch money twice.

Next to him was my old neighbor

Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought

Was rotting away in hell,

Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,

Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?

I would love to hear Your Take

How'd all these sinners get up here?

God must've made a mistake.

'And why's everyone so quiet,

So somber - give me a clue.'

'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.

No one thought they'd be seeing you.'

JUDGE NOT.

Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a mechanic.

Every saint has a PAST...

Every sinner has a FUTURE "

“Just so, I tell you,
there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents
than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”

- Jesus to the Pharisees “The Lost Sheep” (Luke 15:7)

Dissolving Anger

Taking care of baby Eugene can be very stressful sometimes especially when he 'acts' up - being naughty refusing to eat his food or spitting out his food into your face.

A couple of times I lost my cool and scolded him and also smack his leg - and always felt so guilty later.

I'm glad that I had taken meditation classes before as it helps me to bring me back to being more aware of situations and not be sucked into it and also to quickly centre myself so that I can get to being more calm quickly.

And so now, if Eugene gets to be very 'trying' - I will breathe calmly and meditate and ask his and my angels for help.

Here's a very good passage from a Buddhist article :

How Mindfulness Of Breathing Can Dissolve Anger

The Buddha taught that the fire of anger can burn up everything we have done to bring happiness to ourselves and others. There is not one of us who has not sown seeds of anger in one's heart, and if those seeds are watered, they will grow rapidly and choke us and those around us.

When we are angry, we should come back to ourselves by means of our conscious breathing. We should not look at or listen to the one we feel is making us angry and causing us to suffer.

The other person may have said or done something unskilful or unmindful. But his unskilful words or actions arise from his own suffering. He may just be seeking some relief, hoping to survive. The excessive suffering of one person will often overflow to others. A person who is suffering needs our help, not our anger. We come to see this when we examine our anger through our breathing.

The Buddha says that anger makes us look ugly. If we are able to breathe [mindfully] when we are angry and recognise the ugliness anger brings with it, that recognition acts as a bell of mindfulness. We breathe and smile mindfully in order to bring some evenness back into our hearts, at the same time relaxing the nervous system and the tense muscles of the face. We must keep on with our conscious breathing as we practise walking meditation in the open air, looking deeply at what has happened.

Mindfulness and conscious breathing are sources of energy and can calm the storm of anger, which itself is also a source of energy. If we keep practising mindfulness in order to take care of our anger with the affection of a mother when she takes a small child in her arms, then not only shall we calm the storm but we shall also be able to find out where our anger really comes from.

Our practice, carefully executed, will thus be able to transform the seeds of anger in us.

Eugene's Birth Certificate

26 May 2009

We went to the immigration today to get Eugene's birth certificate and to apply for his Singapore Citizenship.

We thought that we will get his Singapore Citizenship together with his birth cert but it seems that the Singapore Citizenship document will take another 2-3 months.

And guess what? Today is also our Chinese Wedding anniversary - this date where we had our Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony and Wedding Dinner.

Wah, I take this as a good sign and more blessings ahead.

Parallel Dimensions

I was channel surfing TV (as usual) and came across this documentary on other dimensions which led me to read more about it from the internet.

The below paragraph was taken from the net :

"When we talk about parallel dimensions we are not speaking of an exact duplicate, but of near duplicate dimensions. For example, I have brown hair in this dimension so in other parallel dimensions my hair might be tan, black, blond. If I am right handed here, other dimensions I may be left handed. Near duplicate, but not exactly the same.

Scientists have now confirmed the existence of at least eleven other dimensions. We have taught that the spirits of the dead exist within their own dimension that is the nearest to ours. Accounts of spirits or ghosts walking through walls instead of the doorway perhaps is because in their dimension, the wall is a hallway or doorway, but in our dimension it is a wall. Spirits tend to create the reality they live within which often overlaps into our dimension."

You might think that this is all hogwash but there is some element of truth in it as someone close and I, had experienced it.

There were 2 incidents that I had experienced that I can still remember so clearly to this day like it had just happened yesterday :

(1) When I was, I think, about 6-7 years old. My parents brought me to the Farrer Park swimming pool. I do not know how to swim and this young girl put me on her shoulder and started wading into the pool.

She fell and the next thing I knew, I was under the water. Now it was very crowded that day, but when I went under, it was all blue and empty - nobody, the whole pool was empty! - I couldn't see anybody's body, legs, arms under the water - it's like another place. A voice (I now know it's my guardian angel/angels) told me not to be scared but to just hold my breath.

So there I was under the water and I remember that it was so peaceful and quiet. Then suddenly, a light burst above me and I saw this non-chinese man with moustache and a hairy chest swimmed towards me and carried me up to the surface.

When I came up to the surface, I can hear my mom being kind of hysterical, shouting if I'm ok and whether I was coughing or choking...... oh, I thought to myself, I'm expected to cough har..... so, I pretended to cough - actually I was fine. I remembered later being given a curry puff to eat.

2) My mom just had an operation and she was hospitalised at the Toa Payoh hospital. I was around maybe 11-12 years old.

So every afternoon, I will walk from home to the hospital to visit my mom. And being young and energetic, I do not talk the elevator but take the stairs.

One day, after visiting my mom, as usual I walk down the stairs. Usually, when i go down two rounds of the stairs, I should be on the ground floor. But on that day, I kept going round and down and down and down......... there's no sight of the ground floor. And on the landing of the commom corridors that leads to the wards, it was EMPTY - now, this is during lunch time and there should be plenty of people walking around. There were nobody, the whole corridor was empty.......

The thought that came to me was "oh no, not again. ok, if I can't go down, then I should go up."

I went up and up until I came upon the common corridor and there were people milling and walking - ok, I should be back to the present - so I ran along this corridor and went down the stairs at the other end of the corridor making sure that there are other people going down the stairs too.

On both encounters, it was devoid of people.

Now, for the real proof that there are other dimensions.

Someone young and close to me have a special gift. Let's call him, DD.

DD have a special gift where he can see the ghosts/spirits. And after talking to him, I realise that sometimes he sees the parallel dimension.

Let me explain.

Once I was at my parent's home :
Me : ok, do you see any 'special person'?
DD : ya
Me : what lah
DD : I see you...
Me : ????? har?? what do you mean
DD: I see 2 of you....
Me : (my hair already standing on ends) you see 2 of me ? then how you know which one is the real me?
DD : the other one looks like you, not an exact replica of you. She is not wearing any spectacles.
Me : what is she doing now?
DD : just walking around the house and sometimes making funny faces like what you do sometimes.
Me : do you see any other family members?
DD : the other day, GP(a family member) was out in the hall talking but I see the 'other GP' sleeping in the room.

So, I think this really proves that there is a parallel dimension out there.

Walker Walk Walk

I was using the diaper trolley for Eugene to hang onto to walk.

Ya, guess what happens? There will be a trail of diapers on the floor while he walks as he will pull out the diapers one by one and throw it onto the floor.

So now I got a "Little Tikes Walker" today for Eugene for him to learn to walk.

Think it's better than the Fisher-Price because you can adjust the wheel's speed so that it's not too smooth so that the baby will not fall face down.

Mindless Followers

Came across the below article - which I totally agree.

Try not to follow blindly or for the sake of doing it or just becos everyone's doing it or becos of peer pressure

Anything you repeat mindlessly is a pointless rite and ritual. - Stonepeace

Once upon a time, whenever the monks in a monastery were about to begin their evening meditation sessions, a stray cat would prance around and create quite a din, making it difficult to meditate.

With no workable solution then, the master asked the cat to be tied to a pole some distance away. Years later, after the master passed away, the same cat was still regularly tied, even though he had stopped making a nuisance of himself. Even more years later, when that cat died, another cat was brought in - to be tied up during meditation.

Absurdly, the master's disciples began writing lengthy scholarly pieces on the significance of the cat ritual! This is probably a good theory of how something done for a good reason can eventually degenerate into pointless superstition when its rationale is forgotten. Worse still, 'rationale' that is not the original might be wrongly imagined.

It's not suprising to come across many following customs without knowing their real intentions. This becomes ritualised display of blind ignorance - that might repeatedly create negative karma - e.g. by animal abuse!

Many religious rituals started simple - to serve practical functions, but became lavish in form over time, which distracts the followers from their true meaning. Some routines might not even be spiritual in nature!

As such, truly responsible disciples should question traditions instead of just adhering to them 'responsibly' - or there would be no wisdom gained.

Attachment to rites and rituals happens to be one of the first fetters to break on the path to enlightenment. Rituals are but means to a greater goal. Don't just stick to them and stay stuck!

Sound of Music

More than 200 dancers were performing their version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp. with just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing stunt!

Those 4 fantastic minutes started the 23 of march 2009, 08:00 AM.

It is a promotion stunt for a Belgian television program, where they are looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of "The Sound of Music".

Absolutely delightful!

I remember when I was young, I just love watching musicals and my dad would bring me to the movies. "Sound of Music" was one of my favourite and I think I must have watched it at least 5 times! - my dad loves musical too.

When I started working, I was fortunate to visit Austria and went a "Sound of Music" tour in Salzburg. I saw the palace, the garden pavillion and the church where the couple got married in the movie. It is a small church and so quaint.

Salzburg is so beautiful!

S-Factor - Susan Boyle

I had just watched Susan Boyle on YouTube.

When she stepped out on stage, many people in the audience gave her a look of disdain. What, look like that want to be an Idol?

But when she opened her mouth to sing, wow, wow, wow, it was so angelic. And she had a standing ovation.

Yes, most of us judge a book by its cover, including moi, I'm ashamed to say.

I remember once temping in a company and this lady will pass by my desk every morning and put a copy of the newspaper on my in-tray for my boss. I thought she was the coffee-lady - turned out she is the PA to the top guy.

note to myself : I must be even more aware and not be judgemental whether consciously or subconsciously

Which brings me to the next subject : Model = Bimbos?

I heard about the local show S-Factor but never watched it. But I finally watched half of an episode yesterday while surfing thru the channels and happened to come across it.

Aiyo, yo.......

I watched the part where the gals have a debate - man, I just switched channel half-way thru - the way they talk, arguing their points etc.... Well, I hope that people from other countries don't think that all S'poreans gals are like that.

I don't know in real life if the gals are really like that, or becos of the editing - my goodness, the gals do come across as really hare-brain, no-brain bimbos. Pretty gals but not much grey matters.

Ok, ok, I am trying not to be so judgemental but the way those gals are behaving, it's hard to shake off the stereotypes about models.

Ok, enough said.

Hello Babe!

Baby E is basically a sweet, sociable baby. If anyone talks to him and smile at him, he will smile back.

But I've just realised that he is partial to sweet young thing!

Hubby and I were having our lunch at a kopi-tiam and E as usual was in his pram. Suddenly, he let out a yelp and we turned to see what he is looking at - that boy ah - he was looking at this sweet, young thing with long hair.

And when she started to leave, E followed her with his eyes - looking to his left and then to his right when the young gal passed behind his pram.

This is not the 1st time it happened. When he sees a pretty gal, he gets all hyped up especially if the gal have long hair.

If the gal got short hair, no interest. If the gal is not young, also no interest.

I just wonder how come? Most of the time he is at home with me. He does not watch TV except for a little cartoon in the evening. So how come the typical stereotyping like must be young and have long hair.

Hubby said it's in-born in the male genes.

Well, looks like E is going to be such a Cassanova.

Cousins' Gathering & Up The Stairs We Go

06 April 2009

Hubby's sis organised a cousins gathering to be at the 'New HongKong Restaurant' at Novena Ville but since it's such a big crowd, M graciously invited everybody to her house since it's nearby.

Hubby's sis and two cousins went to 'tar-pow' food from the restaurant.

Very yummy food and the restaurant's signature dish is their 'Fish-Head' noodle soup but sis-in-law just bought the soup without the noodles.

I like M's open concept kitchen and a kitchen island.

Xbox Rock-Band time!

Everybody had a blast!

It was fun with the kids trying to be a rock-band.

And here's E on his maiden flight up the stairs with the 'kor-kors' egging him on.
Luke took this video.

E did very, very well. He was looking and judging how and where to place his legs and hands to go up the stairs.

YOU GO BOY!

We like the baked mussels with cheese best of all.

Mom who only will take Chinese food tried the baked mussels and liked it.

Bravo Mom for trying other varieties of food besides only Chinese.

Wedding by the Bungy

4 April 2009 - 11.30am

Attended hubby's cousin's wedding at their 'Bungy Bar' at Clarke Quay.

With the bride 'M'. M has a very bubbly and infectious personality. We always have a good time and laughter with her around.

With hubby's sis

MC's son

Mom-in-law looking smart in her outfit.

Oh man, the queue is so long, I'm soooo hungry.......

Hubby feeding E.

E is such a sociable baby. He was smiling all the time and everybody loves carrying him.

E usually needs his nap after every feed but due to so many distractions, he did not take his naps (2 naps) and he did not even cry.

He was out cold though when he got onto his car-seat on the way home.

Oh, baby E, you're such a good boy.
