HortPark & Buona Vista Duck Rice

08 August 2009

We decided to visit the HortPark since we had heard so much about it.

We went in the evening around 6.30pm but it was still very bright and hot and humiiid.

This is Adam's Cafe at the Visitor Centre.

Looks like a resort with the area overlooking a reflection pool and seems like you're perched ontop a hill overlooking the park.

Think it'll be nice and romantic if you want to go 'pak-tor'. Can have your dinner and then 'pak-tor' at the park.

High-rise hanging gardens

This hibiscus is actually rather big

Eugene fascinated by the little water-fall

Why am I taking pic of leaves? I thought it looks like butterflies' wings-rather interesting

Flower-pots artistry

You witch!

Coca-Cola artistry

and woks' artistry

and me trying to be artistic in taking this pic.

I heart this pic of Eugene.

and now for dinner......

We went to the below for the boneless duck.

They have very limited menu here. Just the kangkong belachan, tau-foo, the innards, eggs and the duck of cos.

Parking is rather limited. We were very lucky to get a parking space at the lane next to it as a car was just leaving.

I think the food is just okay lah. Maybe I have always eaten this teochew food as I'm teochew and my grandma used to make this at home and of cos my grandma's duck is the best.

I remembered when I was young when my grandma would do this soya-duck. My grand-ma would squat on the floor to chop up the duck on the wooden chopping board and I would squat opposite her and look at the duck longingly - becos my grandma would always give me the whole drumstick! - I can still recall that it's so juicy and yummy.

Stand Up - Unassisted / Shower, Shower

Today Eugene managed to get up onto a standing position on his own - twice - so proud of him.

And ever since he doesn't wobble so much when he stands and I guess he feels more confident and more steady on his feet, he now wants to stand too when he takes his shower.

Aiyoh, I headache man.

If he is just standing, it's ok but he will also try to walk from one side to the other side of the shower area which I feel is rather dangerous as he is still not too steady in his walking and the floor's rather slippery. So I have to hold onto him with one hand and the other hand holding onto the shower head to shower him.

I usually comes out of these shower ordeals semi-drenched in water.

Walking Unassisted!

Eugene's getting more confident walking on his own. Now he tries to walk instead of crawling around the house.

Just a week ago, he was still very unsteady on his feet. Now he manages about 5-6 steps before losing his balance.

But he is still unable to get up to a standing position without holding onto something to pull himself up.

I am so looking forward when he is able to walk steadily on his own. He's getting so heavy to carry.

But everybody says that I will be more busy and tired running after him then.

Hmm..... no worries, I've got a lease ready already, heh heh heh.....

Assisted Walking

Eugene has been rather steady in his walking while holding onto his walker or other stuff for support while walking or cruising as the baby books calls it.

He has, recently, managed to walk on his own taking 2 steps, then 3 steps. Then yesterday and today, he has managed to take about 5-6 steps before squatting down.

He's still not able to get into a standing position on his own, guess his balancing is still not too good.

Here's a video of him holding onto my fingers while walking.

Bravo Eugene for trying!

Fork & Spoon Handling

I am starting to teach Eugene to learn how to handle his fork and spoon.

Bought this set of fork and spoon from Kiddie Palace.
It is smaller and shorter than normal.
Guess it's becos it will be a shorter distance to get to the mouth, ha ha.

Notice the white handle, it is kind of wide at one end, this is to prevent the child from inserting the whole spoon, handle and all into the mouth.
This really helps as Eugene will automatically stop inserting the whole spoon in and it also teaches him which way to use the spoon - that is holding the white handle and not the orange side.

ok, let's start.....

in goes the spoon.....and scoop.....

and into my mouth.... yum, yum....

1st Swim at Tangling Club

22 July 2009

Brought Eugene to his 1st swim at the Tanglin Club.

Eugene looking around apprehensively

Daddy blowing bubbles - so funny

ok, I'm kind of scared, let me just stick to the side of the pool...

Mommy trying to calm Eugene

Hubby's bro with his kid who is absolutely fearless in the water

Hubby's sis-in-law encouraging Eugene

Howww, I'm scared!!!........

Here Eugene, let Kor-Kor teach you how it's done......

Waiting for food - so hungry

JL's Mickey Mouse Pizza!

Will definitely have to bring Eugene more often to the swimming pool.

He was scared and crying at first but was quite ok later.

He does not like to have his face splashed with water so I am slowing trying to get him used to it in the shower.

He was hanging onto a plastic cup and refused to let it go, think this is like his 'security blanket'.

Happy Belated 1st Birthday Eugene! (Part 2)

Wah, I feel like some kind of VIP walking in with my Pa-in-law

Ah-mah, carry me!

We had only invited mainly relatives this time with the exceptions of a few very, very close and long time friends, a couple of whom were our references during Eugene's adoption process.

Thank goodness, we did not have the birthday party at home as it will be way too crowded and will not be so comfortable for the older folks.

Happy Birthday Eugene!
Love from Mommy & Daddy
