Groupie Gathering

25 August 2012

Our usual groupie gathering.

Dinner was at the Tangs Island Cafe at Tangs. AA suggested this place and I agreed.

Group asked why here - well, because it will not be crowded.

I certainly do not like to jostle with the crowds and to queue for a long time for my food.

Local food at this cafe. The 2 dishes that stands out are the Crayfish Laksa and the Tahu Telor. The rest are only so-so and on the one occasion that I had gone there with hubby, the Penang Char-Kway-Teow was terrible.

But I must say, the Tahu Telor was the best that I had ever tasted.

We next wanted to go to a coffee / dessert joint to chit-chat. Guess what, most of the cafes close at 10pm.

We managed to find one that closes at 1am and that's "High Society" at Pacific Plaza. I must add that we're not those snobbish atas people - just that this place was convenient for us.

Wah, looks so 'high society' ya...

AA looking so 'modelish'

There have very beautiful looking cupcakes and great tasting too.

FJ - wish you were here. Let us know when you come back to S'pore for a visit.

ESMERALDA Ship @ VivoCity

12 August 2012

Off we went to see the Esmeralda ship docked at Vivocity.

We had some time to kill before the ship's opened to the public.
Guess what were we queuing for ?

Queuing for a ride in a kiddy train!
It was such a hot and humid day - see my hair plastered over my forehead ?

Choo !   Choo!

Eugene and the other boy in the same cabin were singing the Thomas song very loudly - well, it was loud because the boy's grandma and I were singing too ! lol!

ALL ABOARD !

Wah, I looked like I've got a big fat stomach protruding. It's the blouse which is elasticised at the bottom - well, ok, there is a slight chubby stomach :(

Esmeralda is a steel-hulled four-masted barquentine tall ship of the Chilean Navy, currently the second tallest and longest sailing ship in the world (wikipedia).

Art Class

04 August 2012

Seeing that Eugene have an interest in drawing, I had enrolled him in an art class at the Community Club near our place.

Wah, there're a lot of kids enrolled. Two teachers supervise the kids.

But for me it's ok lah. It's more for Eugene to do something he enjoys and also to socialise with the other children.

Waiting for the rest of the kids.....

The younger ones get to sit right in front.

His first drawing. Of cos the teacher helped a bit.
That's a monkey, by the way (I thought it was a frog, ha ha)

Road Drawing

01 August 2012

The kid said he wanted to draw and wanted some papers.

And he came up with this........

I was stunned. The drawing that I had seen him drew was the "sad cat" at the Children Festival.

I didn't expect him to staple the 2 pieces of paper together and draw this scene.

I think his perspective relating to the road was pretty good.

Hubby : so where's daddy ?

Eugene : you are in the car behind us. I'm grown up already and so I can drive mommy.

ha ha, that was a cute conversation.

Earth Jar Treasure

21 July 2012

I was craving for soup or double-boiled soup and came across this post from "ieat.ishoot.ipost".

It's not double-boiled soup but baked soup as apparently little pots of soup are being put into big urns and cooked by charcoal inside the big urns.

Hmm.... let's see how good it is.

I chose the salted duck soup. The taste was rather different from the usual salted duck soup. It tasted a little spicy - I dig around in the pot and wala, there was a chilli in it.

Actually the spicy taste kind of grows on you.

There was a big chunk of duck meat but it was rather tough - could do with more cooking time to make it softer.

Hubby ordered the below which I don't know what's called in English.

I told them nothing heaty as hubby's nursing a sore-throat and a guy recommended this.

A big bag of herb with the chicken.

For about $6.00, I should say the price is pretty decent as you do get big chunks of meat - not those that usually gives you 3 or 4 pieces of small pieces of meat.

But I think the best is the dried shrimp rice. It was so tasty that hubby had a second helping.

T-Rex Fossil

15 July 2012

Eugene is still into dinosaurs. In fact, he's crazy about these prehistoric creatures.

And I chanced upon this at Kiddy Palace.

T-Rex fossil excavation kit.

I bought this in early July for Eugene's birthday present.

Ha ha, the kid was so absolutely thrilled !

The block was actually quite hard and the equipment supplied was not able to chip the block of clay (I think it was clay).

I had to bring out the hammer for it and slowly chipped at it. Eugene took over a bit of the hammering too and also used the tool to slowly saw at it.

He was really diligent and concentrated on this task. In fact, he was at it for over an hour.

After getting the fossil out, he went to wash it at the sink - slowly getting the clay out.

I think from beginning (excavating the fossil)  to end (cleaning the fossil) -  it was more than 2 hours !
Now, I think that's really good focus for a kid this age.

The kid started to try to fix the dinosaur following the diagram.

Not bad - he managed to fix the spine and the rib-cage by himself. The rest of the parts we had to fix it for him.

Ta-daa ! My T-Rex

He was so proud of it - as he had done most of the work.

Well done Eugene !

Jurong Frog Farm

14 July 2012

After our lunch at Orchidville Forrest, we drove around the area and came across this frog farm.

Making our way into the frog area.

It's dim, dank, damp and so loud and noisy from the frogs croaking.

The kid curious and fascinated.

There's an outdoor cafe selling frog food like hashima dessert, fried frogs legs, frogs porridge.

We shared a bowl of frogs porridge and a hashima jelly dessert and bought a pack of frogs part to cook at home.

Orchidville - Forrest Restaurant

14 July 2012

We needed to get out of the city.

Needed some place quiet, without the hustle and bustle and loads of people everywhere you turn.

Where do you go ?

To the farms, of cos.

Well, we headed out to this chinese restaurant and the food's good.

After lunch, we then walked around the place which looked pretty run down.

We then headed to the frog farm (see next post).

Happy 4th Birthday !

11 July 2012

The kid is 4 years old ! Before one knows it, he'll be a teenager already.

Eugene's class did the Dinosaur theme and now the Olympic theme for their school term.

And I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate the themes for his birthday cookies to be given to his class-mates.

I managed to find online, Yoke Bakery, who have this 2 themes.

The colours were very striking  and guess what .............

ok, I don't bake cookies and I don't know anything about colourings, icing etc. .... well, what happened was this.

The kid came to me to wipe his mouth after eating the cookies. I turned around and his teeth and mouth were all black ! OMG ! What happened ! But he looked perfectly fine and then I realised that it was from the dinosaur cookies which were a very dark purple. Then when he ate the Singapore flag, his mouth turned red !  But the colours washed off when the kid rinsed his mouth.

Then the next shocker. He need to poo and his poo was bright green. It was so weird coloured like some alien green poo ! lol !

Well, apparently it was the coloured icings.

I called up Yoke Bakery and informed them that they should advised customers of the colouring stains cos it can be very shocking to see it.

It can be quite funny on a kid but I don't think it will be funny on an adult especially if you're at a function eating it.

But the cookies are really very delicious and buttery though.

Yoke Bakery gives complimentary gift tags which I thought was really great.

You might be thinking. Hmm... what kind of a cake is that ? Such an unusual shape.

Would you believe that that's a Japanese Cotton Cheesecake.

I had baked Japanese Cheesecake before quite successfully but I thought I'll try out this blogger's recipe as I want it to be 100% great.

As you can see, it failed oh so miserably. I guess I'll stick to the recipe from "Alex Goh".

But on a bright side, Eugene liked it - he thought it resembled a volcano :)

Happy Birthday Eugene !

Paleontologist or Sherlock Holmes?

07 July 2012

On a hunt for dinosaur fossils.

Hmm..... I thought he looked more like a Sherlock Holmes than a paleontologist.

Jacob Ballas @ Botanic Garden

20 June 2012

Yes, we're back at Jacob Ballas.

We brought Eugeneway back in 2010, think he was too young then to really enjoy the place.

Got a couple of pics to compare from 2010 - got this idea from "Our Baby Of Love" blog.

He certainly doesn't look babyish anymore. Now he has the boy-boy look.

As you can see, he was petrified trying to climb up these stairs in the Tree-House.

We had dinner at "Food For Thought". This place is huge compared to their other joint at SAM@8Q.

This place is directly below the information counter at the Botanic Garden. It's at the basement carpark.

It good for large groups as they have big or long tables. I like that there are plants growing out of the tables.

There's also an outdoor playground for kids.
