Google Earth Singapore

Saw these 2 Google Earth mapping cars. Can you see the tall cameras perched on top of the cars? - I've circled one of the camera to highlight it. Aiya, taken with my camera phone so the pic not so good lah.

I've read that Google Earth is going to do mapping of 3D images of Singapore. What it mean is that when you go to Google Earth, not only will you get a satellite or top down view but you'll soon be able to zoom right down to road level and be able to see all the buildings at eye-level.

Wow, can't wait to see.

Diabetes Cure?

PETAI

My sis-in-law told me that her father was cured of diabetes simply by eating Petai. Her father ate the petai in its raw form mixed with some belachan everyday for 2 years. When he went for a diabete test - his level was normal.

Petai is an acquired taste. It has a kind of a pungent taste and ahem, your urine and fart are going to smell pungent too. It's suppose to clean your insides and thus the rather pungent smell coming out from your orifice.

Here's a petai recipe which I had just whipped up. The chilli paste goes very well with petai as it helps to mask the pungent scent of the petai.

ANCHOVIES/IKAN BILIS WITH PETAI
(serves about 4-6)

Ingredients
Cooking Oil - 50ml
Shallots - 6, peeled and sliced
Chilli paste - 2 tbsp
Shrimp paste (belachan) - 4cm, roasted and ground
Tamarind pulp (asam) - 30g, mixed with 100ml water, squeezed and strained
Salt - to taste
Sugar - to taste
Petai - 80g, peeled
Anchovies/Ikan Bilis - 200g, deep fried

Note :
(a) re Petai : if you can find the whole stem of the petai, that's better but you will have to split the beans to get the pods out. But otherwise it is available already peeled in packet form.

(b) re chilli paste + belachan : I bought ready-mades at the NTUC supermarket.

(c) re Ikan Bilis : I just got 100g which I felt was more than enough.

Method
- Heat cooking oil in a frying pan.

- Add shallots, chilli paste and shrimp paste (or the ready-made ones). Stir-fry until fragrant.

- Add tamarind juice, salt and sugar to taste.

- When gravy is slightly thickened, add petai and anchovies.

- Cook for another 3 minutes.

- Dish out onto a serving plate.

I read on the internet that Petai have quite a lot of cures but I am usually sceptical. I would not have believed about the diabetes cure thingy if I had not heard it first hand from my bro and his wife that her father is now cured.

Jalan Sultan Prawn Noodles

4 October 2008

It had been a while since we ate at this popular prawn-mee place which is opposite the Stadium.

Hmmm..... when I had it quite a while back, the soup was very sedap, but this time round, it seemed a bit diluted and not so robust anymore.

Is it due the consumers' request that the soup not be too oily or is it the seller cutting down on cost and are not using the same amount of ingredients to make the soup?

In any case, it is still better than some of the Penang prawn-noodles out there where there are usually not even a hint of the prawn taste.

Car Boot Sale

21 Sept 2008

Read about the car boot sale near the Big Splash and so went down to check it out.

It was from 10am - 10pm.

A note to the organiser if you happen to read this : it was really, really hotttttt and humid in the afternoon. I can see the sellers baking in the sun and most were putting on sun-tan lotions and some were kinda burnt - and frankly it is really way too hot to have an interest in looking.

Hubby, sis-in-law and I couldn't take it (even though we were wearing hats) and had to skip into an air-con place for a cool drink.

We resumed at 5 o'clock which was so much better - the sun's not too hot and I can see more families turning up.

It's a shame that some vendors were packing up to go home as they couldn't take the heat anymore.

So organisers : why don't start from 5pm instead? and of cos cannot charge your vendors the full rate lah.

Here's the website to find out when's their next car boot sale : www.sgcarbootsale.com

Gnan Vidhi

10 & 13 Sept'2008

Our friend FL invited us to a couple of spiritual talks.

We attended a preview on the 10 Sept before attending the actual talk on the 13 Sept which is called the 'Gnan Vidhi'.

It's a talk/course on how to minimize, dissolve karma, about 'who we are', how do we separate the "I', how do we resolve issues etc.

After attending various spiritual talks in the past like some visiting gurus (I can't remember his and her names) and also K.K.Tan - it all have the same principle teachings which is conduct, awareness, etc, which is also what all the religions are fundamentally teaching.

I feel that it's basically how each gurus or religion interpret it and I guess, break it down into simpler forms that one can understand better.

All these talks might come across as different but when you analyse it, it actually boils down to the same basic teachings.

But then, we will still attend these talks as sometimes it's not easy to understand and maybe some gurus might give some insights into it.

Note : remarks are just my own sentiments and are not meant to discredit any religion.

More info on : www.dadabhagwan.org & www.dadashri.org

Thanks FL for always keeping me in mind.

CERN - Big Bang Machine

The $9 billion Large Hadron Collider, 20 years in the making, represents the work of at least 7,000 scientist, will be turned on, on Wednesday, 10 September 2008.

(Look at the size of this - see the small people there? That's how big it is. Doesn't it look like a time-machine portal like StarGate?)

The world's biggest, most highly anticipated physics experiment comes online this week, as the first beam of particles begins to circulate around a 17-mile underground race-track that lies beneath France and Switzerland.

The $9 billion Large Hadron Collider, 20 years in the making, represents the work of at least 7,000 scientists from 60 countries, including a contingent from the Boston area that spent years, or entire careers, working on this project.

Their excitement is testimony to the importance of the mission: to recreate in an underground tunnel the conditions of the early universe, just a trillionth of a second after the Big Bang. From that, they hope to fill in gaps in physics knowledge, search for hidden dimensions, and understand why particles have mass.

The Large Hadron Collider is operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research, also known by its French acronym, CERN. The circular underground tunnel, in which the particle beams ramp up to 99.99 percent of the speed of the light, lies more than 300 feet below the earth, at the foot of the Jura Mountains

One of physicists' most vexing unanswered questions is: What are the origins of mass in the universe? The answer may lie in a theoretical particle called the Higgs boson first predicted in 1964, that has been bugging scientists for decades. The elusive particle, also called the "God particle," was inserted into scientific theory to make physicists' models work, but it has never been seen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This appeared in The Straits Times, Singapore, 09 Sep 08 :

BIG BANG MACHINE SET TO POWER UP

It has been called an Alice In Wonderland probe into the make-up of the universe - or dangerous tampering with nature that could spell doomsday

The multibillion-dollar Large Hadron Collider will explore the tiniest particles and come every closer to re-enacting the Big Bang, the theory that a colossal explosion created the universe.

The machine at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, promises scientists a closer look at the make-up of matter, filling in gaps in knowledge or possibly reshaping theories.

In the first stage of its commissioning process, the collider, installed in a 27km tunnel 91.4m under the French-Swiss border, will start unleashing a beam of protons tomorrow (10 Sep'08).

Two parallel beams of particles, one going clockwise and the other anti-clockwise, will blast around the underground ring recreating the conditions seen when the universe came into existence 14 billion years ago.

In cathedral-sized caverns located at four points in the ring, superconducting magnets will bend the beams so that groups of protons smash into each other under the gaze of detectors that will record the resulting sub-atomic debris.

This invisible rubble could help resolve some of the biggest questions in physics.

It will still be about a month before the beams are brought together in collisions but some sceptics fear the process could create micro "black holes", sub-atomic versions of collapsed stars whose gravity is so strong they can suck in planets.

In a safety assessment report released last week, CERN said any black holes produced would be "microscopic" and decay almost immediately as they would lack the energy to grow or even be sustained.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is rather exciting - will Man know how the universe actually began? Will this lead to other dimensions' portals and time-travel? Does this in any way tie in with 2012?

2012 - Salvation or Doom?

These are some of the hype about the coming of 2012.

What you will be seeing here will be rather "controversial, far-out, far-fetch" (esp.the video seminar by David Wilcox) it may seem - so view it with an open-mind and judge for yourself.

Seems to be 2 scenarios that will be happening:
(1) Humanity's shift to higher consciousness
(2) Earth's polar shift, magnetic field, solar sun and the Galactic Alignment
All happening at the same time of 21 December 2012.

This is a rather interesting article explaining the Galactic Alignment :

AURA Imaging Photographs

26 Aug 2008

Went with a fren to take photos of our auras. We had taken such pics before but it was years ago and so we decided to go and have it taken.

We had 2 pics taken at different shop, at different time - just curious lor to see what the colours are when taken not at the same time.

1st Pic - this was taken in the morning around 11.45am and the first page of the printed report.

2nd Pic - this was taken after I had my lunch at around 2pm and the first page of the printed report.

Both pics were taken at different shops and both pics came out rather different though my fren's pics came out absolutely vastly different - his pic in the morning was mainly blueish while it was yellow/red/organge in the afternoon.

All of us have a couple of layers of auras. I have a fren who could see auras but which layers she can see, I don't know. She will tell us the colours she sees surrounding us.

Most people will have those multiple colours. But since, maybe a couple of years ago, when she came to S'pore to visit, she said that she is seeing only the colour white around me and this year when she was here, again she said that it's the colour white and that she has not seen this colour white on any other person. My other frens got the pink, blue etc but she only see 'white' on me. Aiyoh, why ah?

I really don't know what the colour white signifies, so if any person out there who knows what a white aura means, please let me know in the "Comment" section.
I've been 'white lighting' myself and so I wonder if this is the 'white light' that my fren saw surrounding me? If this is the case, then this 'white' is not my aura but my protective shield, right?

There are controversy regarding Aura Imaging. Sceptics say that the pics are not our auras (which tend towards the spiritual) but our electrical field. It has been scientifically proven by the Kirlian Method that we emit out electrical field - hmm... I'm just wondering, maybe in the esoteric aspect, it is been called Aura?
Anyway, it's fun and interesting.

I took the pics at Fu Lou Shou - there are 2 shops there that takes these Aura Imaging pics. One is at the main entrance and another a floor above.
It's not expensive, just $5.00. It comes with a report (quite a few pages) on what your colour signifies. The printed reports on the colours' meanings are mainly on the spiritual aspects. The ladies there will also explain the colours' meanings to you - and their explanations are mainly on the physical aspect like you're healthy or not.

Oh, the lady also said that the colour of your aura are more accurately represented in the printed report than just only looking at the pics cos sometimes the different colours overlap each other and it might not be so clear to the naked eye.

Like, the 1st pic showed my left side that looked like with a bit of green and yellow and orange but the report said it is turquoise.

I thought her explanation on my physical health rather accurate, like low energy (true, I was sick with the flu). Also she said that my intestines are not so 'good' (true, had diarrhea and pain around that area).
The print-out report on the spiritual aspects are quite true for me too.

Flash Flash...

25 August 2008

about 11.45pm - heard shoutings below my block. Kaypoh, went to the back of of kitchen to look down to where the shoutings were coming from - saw a guy kneeling down in front of the elevator and a teenager boy scolding him in Hokkien.

My initial thought was a gang fight. Hmm.... should I call the police? The teenager was shouting in hokkien, wah, the hokkien so cheem that I can only catch a little of what he was shouting here and there. An Ah Beng bullying the 'kneeling-guy', and also this Ah Beng was on his handphone asking his buddies to come down as "I've caught him". Wah, calling for his gang to bash the guy up is it?

While comtemplating if I should call the police, an uncle came down from the lift and this teenager asked the uncle to help him keep an eye on the 'kneeling-guy' and that the police has already been called. Hey, what's going on huh?

Well, apparently this 'kneeling-guy' had been stalking the women in our area and flashing them! And this teenager and his friends had followed him and managed to catch him!

I felt a bit guilty for jumping to conclusion. Just becos the teenager looks like a Beng, speaks like a Beng in Hokkien, and walks like a Beng, I assumed he must be the baddie.

A lesson learnt - don't judge a book by its cover - don't assume until you know the true story.

Anyway, apparently this pervert stayed in my block!

Flu, Flu go away!

I'm slowly recovering from the flu. 3 weeks, almost a month to recover from this flu. Gosh, I've never had it so bad.

It started when I felt weak - it felt like all the energy had been sucked out of me - but I do not have any runny nose or fever. Then a few days later, the full-blown flu bug came on - runny nose, a slight fever, weak, sore-throat, bad cough (coughed so hard that the left side of my body pain), nausea, giddiness. Saw the doctor 3 times!

I've still got the cough though it's slowly getting better. Doc said that this flu had most probably mutated and are stronger and so it is quite terok.

S'pore Garden Festival 2008 at Suntec City

30 July 2008

Had 2 free tickets to the Singapore Garden Festival. Actually didn't really feel like going 'cause still nursing the flu and also feel down as a fren just died recently.

My deceased fren was a genius with flower arrangements - he did not take any courses - it was a natural talent. So this section of my blog is dedicated to Ron.

Can you see the tall giraffe?

A Water-Village

These ones below are BIG! Bigger than your hand.

The pics below are from the Orchid section.

This round orangey blooms are actually many orchids put together to create this round shape.

I feel that this year's displays are not as dramatic and nice as the previous one.

This year's displays tend to be more zen and abstract and not that colourful.
